Review: Chaos by Jamie Shaw
I was excited to start reading Chaos. After Mayhem and Riot, book 1 and 2 in the Mayhem series, I was stoked to get to know Shaun and Kit and learn more about the band The Last Ones to Know. Shaw certainly didn’t disappoint, and Chaos was filled with characters who are easy to fall in love with and smokin hot scenes that will make your heart pound.
Kit Larson has been in love with rock star Shaun Scarlett since the first time she saw him perform at a high school talent show. Not only did he inspire her to learn guitar, but he stole her heart after a steamy night they shared at a party. Unfortunately, the pair didn’t see much of each other until six years later when The Last Ones to Know, Shaun’s band, have an opening for a guitarist. (If you’d like to find out why they have an opening, take a look at Riot, book 2. If you follow my reviews you’ll know Riot is my favorite book in this series. Joel *sigh* Ahem, but I digress. . .) Kit auditions for the band and they are more than happy to have her on board. What happens after this initial audition begins Kit’s new adventure with The Last Ones to Know but propels on a roller coaster of emotions that puts poor Kit, and Shaun, through the proverbial wringer.
The first thing that struck me about Chaos was the feeling I got from the guys, and girls, in the band. Not only are they skilled musicians who work well together, but they have developed a family like bond that keeps them close. It fun getting to know Adam and Joel from a different perspective and witnessing what Joel went through during his separation was heart wrenching. I believe this was the first time we get to see the band at a true after show party. Wow! Not sure if I’d be able to keep up with Van and his groupies!
And since we’re on the topic of families, Kit comes from an interesting family with four older brothers – one of them her twin! Having grown up in such a testosterone filled household, it’s no wonder she fits in so well with the band and their roadies. The comradery makes for a fun read and witnessing the tension between Kit and Shaun made this a difficult book to put down.
Overall I loved this story. It was fun and I thoroughly enjoyed the development of Kit’s and Shaun’s story. This is definitely and 5/5 star for me!

Review: Riot by Jamie Shaw
Before I start my review, I need to admit something. Joel Gibbon is my first official rock star book boyfriend! There! I said it! *fans self* I completely fell in love with him in Riot! Since I finished this book, I’ve been going through some serious withdrawals. I loved Adam from the first book in this series, Mayhem, and didn’t think it would be possible to top him, but Joel totally blew me away. There’s a passion, and in contrast a callous disregard, that made me totally bonkers. Damn it, Joel!
And this cover?? Amazing!
Ahem. On with the review. Dee, Rowan’s best friend whose story we read in Mayhem, is completely infatuated with Joel Gibbon from The Last Ones to Know. But he’s not going out of his way to impress her and she’s getting pretty frustrated. Dee turns on the ‘charm’ to try and get Joel to pursue her, but he’s not falling for it – at least not right away. The chemistry between Dee and Joel is electric and at some points in the book, the best way to describe their encounters was with a ‘Wow – just wow’! There were so many times I was swooning and loving Joel and Dee but also many points when I was so ticked off it took all I had to not throw the book across the room. As I wrote in one of my updates on Goodreads, “I’ve never read a book that made me growl so much!! Arrgghhhh…Joel and Dee frustrate the h*ll out of me!” Dee shows a vulnerable side and takes a chance opening her heart to Joel, the total ladies’ man who has a new girl, or two, hanging off him every night, and their smoking hot relationship morphs into something sweeter. I love the development of Dee and Joel’s relationship and felt every heart ache right along with them.
Overall I give Riot a 5 out of 5 stars. You need to read this book! Even if you haven’t read Mayhem, which you really should, you absolutely need to read Dee and Joel’s story!

Mayhem by Jamie Shaw
*This review may contain spoilers.*
The first thing that caught my attention when I received this book was the quote on the front by Jay Crownover, “This book is exactly why every girl has a rock star fantasy.” I love Crownover and was excited to read a story she enjoyed, especially one with a gorgeous rock star. The second thing that grabbed me was the dedication. Brilliant!
When I started reading this I didn’t want to put it down. The book grabbed me in the first chapter and wouldn’t let go until the end. I read just before bed so there were a few times I was glancing at the clock wondering if there was time for one. . .more . . .chapter. One more chapter lead to another, then another and well, you get the picture. Many late nights!
The characters were likable and I loved Dee’s no nonsense attitude. She pushes Rowan past her comfort zone and tells it like it is. Leti was a funny guy and had me laughing out more than a few times.
Adam was definitely swoon worthy and we learn quickly he’s not without faults. His infatuation with the mystery girl “Peach” shows he’s got a sweet side and, perhaps, wants to get away from all the fan girl groupies. The buildup in the book nearly killed me and I loved the whole French tutor bit. The guys in the band were fantastic.
Overall, this was a fun 5/5 star read. If you want a rock start fix, this is definitely the book for you!
Follow along as I read the second book in this series, Riot by Jamie Shaw. Or better yet, read with me! Hurry though because I’m already on chapter 4!
I absolutely loved this book! If there weren’t so many other books in my to-be-read pile, I’d read it again! From the hot cover, to the steamy scenes in between, and satisfying last page, it was all amazing and highly recommended to lovers of contemporary romance.
Zeb is such a great character and I totally fell in love with him. Although he’s this massive, muscled, ex con who works with his hands for a living, he’s got a gentle way about him and approaches life with a passion that made my heart race. There should be more ‘Zeb’s’ in the world! The way he feels about his son completely melted me and I loved to see this giant man humbled by a five year old. I looked forward to his chapters and would have been happy to read the entire novel from his p.o.v. Crownover has a gift of making you want more, and I was up way too late some nights because I just couldn’t put it down.
Sawyer is a flawed character who put up a lot of road blocks as Zeb pursued her – this frustrated the hell out of me! In the end, though, it comes together and we find out why Sawyer struggled to accept Zeb’s affection and love. Although Sawyer grew up in a tough environment, and you’d think she’d be horribly judgmental, she’s not scared away by Zeb’s criminal past or the rough exterior he presents.
Overall a fantastic read. Jay Crownover has a gift that will leave you wanting more. Five stars!
